Reflection on Social Media Case 9: Ponderize

Ponderize is a term created by a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) named Devin Durrant. He gave a talk at the Church's General Conference in April 2015 about how one should ponder and memorize their scriptures, hence the word Ponderize. After the Church's General Conference, Durant released a website with merchandise with the word Ponderize on it. In theory, this was a good idea, but Durant and his family couldn't account for the backlash they were going to get from this.  People immediately ripped on Durant and his family and said that they were abusing the power of the Church to make money for themselves. What these people didn't listen to was that all of the proceeds were going to the missionary fund for the Church, it wasn't for a personal gain. Instead, they voiced their opinions on numerous channels, Facebook being one of them.  I can see both sides of this. Originally it wasn't explicitly stated that procee

Reflection on Social Media Case 8: Pastor's 10% to God

In America, tipping your server is just an expectation of society. Servers make low wages and completely rely on tips to help them pay for their lives, whether that be putting themselves through college or paying for their family financially they rely on the tips from their great service.  In this week's particular case, a customer, Pastor Bell, at an Applebee's restaurant shut down automatic tipping for the group she was with. He said, "My mistake sir, I'm sure Jesus will pay for my rent and groceries.", and from there Pastor Bell was roasted by over 4,000 people for her actions of simply

Reflection on Social Media Case 7: Anthony Weiner's Post Blog Post

When we were children, the number one thing our parents got mad about was lying. When it comes to Anthony Weiner's case, it looks like he never learned that lying wasn't the best thing to do, nor was sexting underage girls. Anthony Weiner is a Democratic Representative in Congress and was on Hilary Clinton's campaign, was investigated for sexting (sending sexually explicit videos and photos over text messaging or other social mediums) a woman that was 21 years old, and a 15-year-old girl. When it came to the 21-year-old's case, Weiner denied the whole thing, however, his story didn't match up with her's. Weiner later admitted to sending the explicit content to the woman and resigned from Congress. Months after his resignation, another case came out of him sexting a 15-year-old girl. His wife, Huma Abedin, divorced him the next year and he ended up pleading guilty to sending sexually explicit content to the minor. How could all of this have been avoided? Wit
